What's that you say? You love bath and body products but don't have $10 to spend on a single bar of soap from LUSH? Pft, what kind of plebeian are you?
I know, I know, this is like my third LUSH related post in a month, but what can I say, bath and body products are one of my...passions? obsessions? I know know, I just like them. I'm a product junkie, I know. The other day I noticed someone got to my blog by searching for "products like LUSH cosmetics," and I thought, "Oo potential blog post topic!"
It's true, LUSH is expensive. It is not a hippie brand, it is a brand for people with expendable cash. $6.95 for a single bath bomb? Definitely pricey. Personally, I probably only buy a few things a year for myself from LUSH, and then it's usually only with a gift card. Of course, the products are usually fairly unique, they have quality ingredients, look lovely, and are nicely packaged - all things you're paying for.
But if you're not willing or able to shell out the cash, here are some handmade bath and body products like LUSH, just a little bit less expensive. There are many alternatives on Etsy, but I've chosen a few shops that have a combination of presentation, variety and price. Please keep in mind that I haven't actually tried any of these products, so I cannot review their quality or efficacy, but generally they all have a decent amount of positive feedback.
S.V Soaps - This shop has a selection of lovely looking bath bombs (all under $5), vegan soaps, and paraben free body lotions and butters. They also have very bright and colorful products, so if you're looking for something that looks similar to LUSH, this would be an excellent alternative.
Amanda's Naturals - This is a fairly new shop on Etsy, but I really liked their presentation and product selection, plus they did have a decent amount of feedback (positive, of course!). Amanda's carries soaps, aromatherapy bath bombs, and aromatherapy shower fizz tablets for sinuses (which I think sounds awesome!), lotion bars, body butter, milk baths and salt soaks. I really like the fact that their products do not appear to have additional colors added to them. They also carry aromatherapy soy candles.
Black Sheep Soap Company - This seller has beautiful presentation, as well as a selection of soaps, bath teas, and bath bombs ($3.50 each!), that I think would make great gifts. They also offer homemade laundry soaps and stain removers.
Elegant Rose Boutique - This shop has loads of sales and positive feedback, so I feel very confident recommending their products. They offer a vast array of aromatherapy products, TONS of bath bombs, body scrubs, soaps, natural deodorants, massage bars, and lotions. So far as I can see from the ingredients listed, they do not contain any artificial preservatives or parabens, and are primarily made from organic ingredients (but still cost less than LUSH, awesome!).
Herbivore Botanicals - Another shop that looks amazing! Their products as well as their sets are beautifully packaged and would make fantastic gifts. They offer an array of body and face soaps, as well as lip balm, bath bombs, and even sets specifically for men (yay, soap for everyone!).
The Dirty Housewife - The Dirty Housewife has been around Etsy for quite some time. They have all sorts of interesting soaps (like "Gaaa I'm Gettin' Old" and "Mermaid Lagoon") and the most expensive soaps are still the same as the least expensive LUSH soaps. Gaaa I'm Gettin' Old is a facial soap specifically for aging skin (which is anyone over the age of 20!) that has tons of rave reviews, if I were to make a purchase from this shop that would definitely be what I checked out first.
Skin Journey - If you're looking for more natural skin and facial care you may want to check out Skin Journey. They have an adorable collection of scrubs and lotions with scents based on different cities and countries. They also carry a line of all natural facial care products, including cleansers, serums, lotions and masks, all of which have excellent reviews.
DeShawn Marie Handmade Soap - I recently came across this shop by serendipity and was struck by how beautiful all the soaps looked. It is a very established shop with literally thousands of positive reviews and a huge variety of vegan soaps (I have a big wishlist right now, including Lilac Rose, Honeysuckle Calendula, etc), many of which are also organic. DeShawn does not appear to offer bath products beyond soaps right now, but she does offer specials and a soap club. Most of her soaps range from $5 to $6 for 3 to 4 ounces.

Thank you sooo much! I really didn't want to spend tons of money on LUSH products. This is exactly what I've been looking for.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for your suggestion of Dirty Housewife products in this article!

The Dirty Housewife
Some of these products are the same or more expensive than Lush.
ReplyDeleteIt seems that many of these stores have raised their prices since this post was published (it's been over a year). Although going back and looking now, most of them still seem to be on the low end of the Lush price scale (although quite a few seem to be more expensive but you get more product, so I guess it's a trade off), at least in relation to prices in the US. Oh wells, maybe it's time to scour the internet for affordable finds again - unfortunately, a lot of the affordable soaps and bath products don't have the same professional look :(
