I've decided that one of the ways to ensure a successful blog is to have an article series that involves alliterations. Thus, I have settles on Travel Tuesdays, were I will extrapolate on the places I've gone and the places I hope to go.
I'm also throwing around the idea of Makeup Mondays. And maybe Weary Wednesdays, which recounts the trials and tribulations of my middle class life, or Furry Fridays, where we could talk about cute animals OR the furry sex fetish (yes, it's a real thing). Your choice!
Getting back to the matter at hand, Travel Tuesdays. There are a few places I've been, and there are a lot of places I want to go. My number one place that I've always wanted to go is Egypt. Tony and I were planning on going in the near future, but we haven't really determined whether it's actually safe or not. Do we listen to the Travel Detective, who says, Why yes, yes it is? Or do we listen to the reports of the American women who were abducted on their way to Sharm-el-Sheikh - one of the places that Tony and I want to visit? Well, first off, the Travel Detective is staying in places like the Four Seasons Cairo, which I'm sure is very safe and luxurious. And Second of all, there don't seem to be any articles discussing the fate of the American women, so I guess we can only hope they're still alive.

When I was younger I always wanted to be an Egyptologist (It seems like kids, particularly girls, always want to be either Egyptologist or Marine Biologist. I wanted to do both and was successfully talked out of doing either by my parents, who stressed the need to be financially solvent, which one cannot do on the salary of a Sea World Dolphin Trainer). This has led to the adult dream to sail up the Nile visiting the various historical sites. It also led to owning a cat named Luxor, who is a giant pain in the ass. This dream reached new fantastical levels after I found the Amelia Peabody series, which features a stubborn Victorian woman who becomes an Egyptologist in her late twenties and generally goes on to be super awesome.

So yes, I really want to go to Egypt. I really want to sail up the Nile. I want to eat delicious food. I want to visit pyramids, the Sphinx, Karnak, Alexandria and this list goes on. Oh, and I really want to go shopping.

Have you been to Egypt? Have any travel tips? Is Egypt safe to travel to?
Or better yet, where do you want to go?

I love these photos. I have a coworker who lived in Morocco. I think that's high up on my list of places I'd love to visit! Plus you can stay at My Marrakech's guest house with peacocks! But uh, I was totally obsessed with Egypt when I was a kid, too. For a brief period in the 8th grade I could read some hieroglyphics. Nerd alert!
ReplyDeleteEgypt is top but since I want to do a crazy trip there we will probably wait a while and save our pennies. HOWEVER, Morocco is second on my list - I might try and do one of the yoga retreats at Peacock Pavillions depending on what my work (and money) situation is in the fall/winter. You should come with me!
Deleteegypt is high on my list, as are other countries in the middle east - perhaps one day it will be safe again? iceland and peru perennially top my list too
ReplyDeleteTony REALLY wants to go to Machu Picchu and while going to Peru sounds great, I had to admit that I'm not too excited about the idea of hiking for days to get to Machu Picchu, nor the fact that the best time to go is in the winter. I like being warm!
